Hockey Star in Y10

Year 10 pupil, Luke Baker is making a name for himself in the world of hockey.

He is currently part of the England Hockey Performance Centre programme, which is an elite player programme that develops players for national age group and GB hockey.

Players are nominated to attend a Performance Centre by their Academy Centre. Players can be nominated from the U15 and U17 age groups and attend a tough selection day to progress to the Performance Centre level. There are only 300 players nationally at this level at 17 different performance centres and Luke’s goal is to be selected for the Futures Cup squad in August 2019.

The Futures Cup is the pinnacle of the Elite Player Pathway and for many of the players it will be their first experience of an intense tournament-style competition on this scale. Each region battles battles it out in their respective age group for a chance to be crowned the champion. National age group squads are selected from this process.

Luke plays club hockey at Redditch Hockey Club and plays in the Men’s 3rd team as well as playing as an invited guest player in the Tier 1 U16’s National League competition for Stourport Hockey club.

Good luck Luke!!
