Year 7 Kingswood Residential

By Miss R jordan8th October 2018

At the end of September, staff accompanied Year 7 pupils to a 3 day residential trip to Kingswood in Staffordshire.

Kingswood residential encourages the development of life skills and helps everyone to reach their full potential in a way that’s inclusive and puts personal development at the core of what we do. Through taking young people out of the classroom, we believe that school residentials have the power to make the primary and secondary education experience more real, more tangible and even more memorable.

Obstacle course, zipwire, archery, climbing, crate stack, making their own low ropes course, orienteering, nightline and aeroball. Also lots of football, songs and games, made for a non stop action packed few days! Studley values were demonstrated throughout our stay; ‘aspirational’, ‘resilient’, ‘mature’, to name just a few!

All 39 students who attended Kingswood were polite, courteous, worked well as a team and really pushed themselves out of their comfort zone and tried new things. Everyone supported one another, listening to any problems and helping each other to find solutions to beat their fears and achieve. This extended from climbing the very realistic rock face, making new friends, through to eating new food!

Mrs Wakefield, Dr Barnfield and Mr Willett were very pleased to see everyone say thank you for their food, clean up after every meal, and represent Studley High School with the “aiming higher” motto we expect.

We also enjoyed Toby’s birthday whilst we were there, having cake both on Thursday AND Friday! All students took time out to write many cards to Kingswood activity leaders, thanking them for their enthusiasm and hard work in providing such enjoyable activities.

I really enjoyed myself and loved all the activities….the food was great and so were all the staff there. I thoroughly enjoyed the activities….especially doing the nightline, zipwire and the obstacle course in the dark because it was much more fun if you’re afraid of heights, you can’t see how high up you are!

I loved it and would go back any day!

Sophie – Y7
