Last weekend, a group of dedicated Year 9 students embarked on their Bronze Qualifying Expedition in Shipston-on-Stour and the surrounding countryside. Braving scorching temperatures, they demonstrated exceptional resilience, teamwork, and determination throughout their challenging journey.

With temperatures soaring, the students were well-prepared for the demanding conditions. Recognizing the importance of avoiding the hottest point of the day, we woke them up bright and early at 5 am on Sunday morning. By starting their walk at 7 am, they could make the most of the cooler morning hours and minimize the risk of heat-related issues.

Compared to the practice expedition, the students reported sleeping better this time around. The absence of cold weather made a noticeable difference, allowing them to rest more comfortably and recharge their energy for the next day’s adventure.

Throughout the expedition, the students displayed impressive teamwork and camaraderie. They carried their tents and stoves between them, sharing the load and providing support to one another. This collaborative effort exemplified their ability to work as a cohesive unit, a crucial skill that will undoubtedly benefit them in future endeavours.

Despite the scorching sun, the students did their best to protect themselves from its intense rays. However, a few pink shoulders and cheeks served as a reminder of the enduring heat. This experience reinforced the importance of adequate sun protection and encouraged the students to prioritize their well-being in challenging weather conditions.

While the journey was undoubtedly physically demanding, the students also found time to enjoy some well-deserved leisure. At the campsite, they engaged in a lively game of cricket, showcasing their competitive spirit and unwinding after a long day of walking. This moment of relaxation fostered a sense of camaraderie and allowed the students to appreciate the beauty of their surroundings.

We commend the Year 9 students for their outstanding commitment, resilience, and positive attitude throughout the Bronze Qualifying Expedition. Their determination to succeed in the face of adversity is a testament to their character and serves as an inspiration to all. We are proud of their achievements and look forward to witnessing their continued growth and success in the future.

Well done, Year 9!
