As part of our careers education programme and skills for employment initiative, pupils from across all year groups welcomed Mike Brabb from Masefield Architects, to Studley High, for a presentation on the role of an architect and future career prospects in architecture.
Mike presented to over thirty two pupils and discussed his own career entry as well as progression within the industry. He also covered the skill set required for the role which includes: design and drawing skills, a methodical, logical approach, analytical skills, excellent Maths skills, communication and negotiating skills and IT skills.
Mike explained how the use of art was integral to the role. Pupils then had the opportunity to see some of the drawings of Masefield Architects and Mike’s architectural work.
Feedback from some of the pupils:
I found it useful to know about the role and where the actual work is for you to be able to earn higher income.
I found the drawings insightful and now understand why art would be relevant, as well as maths and physics
