Careers Café Success!

30th June 2023Miss R jordan

We are delighted to announce the successful completion of our recent Careers Café event for our year 8 pupils at Studley High School. The event aimed to broaden their understanding of the world of work and provide them with valuable information for making decisions about their GCSEs, post-16 education, and beyond.

The Careers Café took place in an informal café-style setting, where our pupils had the opportunity to interview visitors from the local and wider community. We extend our sincere gratitude to all the visitors who generously gave their time to attend the event. Their presence and valuable insights made the event a resounding success.

The event proved to be an excellent platform for our pupils to not only learn about various companies but also gain insight into the diverse roles and career pathways associated with each profession. The interaction with professionals from different fields allowed our year 8 students to develop their networking skills, an essential skill for their future endeavours.

We would like to express our appreciation to the following organizations for their participation in the Careers Café:

– Warwickshire College Group
– South and City College
– Taylor Wimpey
– Budget Shipping Containers
– Studley Castle
– Masefields Architects
– Seco Tools
– Worcester Sixth Form College

Their presence and willingness to share their expertise have undoubtedly left a lasting impact on our students. We are grateful for their support and commitment to nurturing the aspirations of our young learners.

At Studley High School, we believe in providing comprehensive career guidance and opportunities for our students. The Careers Café event is just one of the many initiatives we organize to ensure our students have the knowledge and confidence to make informed decisions about their future educational and professional paths.

Once again, a heartfelt thank you to our visitors for their valuable contributions, and congratulations to our year 8 pupils for their active participation and impressive networking skills. We are confident that this experience will guide them in making well-informed choices for their educational and career journeys.

Y10 visit to Birmingham Synagogue

By Miss R jordan6th December 2017

Year 10 are currently studying the practices and beliefs of Judaism. To help pupils understand and experience the Jewish religious culture first hand, they ventured to the Birmingham Hebrew Congregation Synagogue, in Birmingham City Centre.
The building was first built in 1855 and therefore iconic in the area. The pupils thoroughly enjoyed asking questions and were greatly received by the tour guide who complimented our students on their outstanding attitude.

The pupils were taken on a guided tour, enabling them to see the important features found within a Jewish place of worship including:

The Ark and the Torah
Every synagogue contains an ‘Ark’, which is a cupboard where the ‘Torah Scrolls’ are kept (these contain the text of the Hebrew Bible, or the Torah) and a desk from which to read the Torah.

The platform and the desk for Torah readings are called the ‘Bimah’ and were found at the centre of the building.

Our pupils were told how, at the proper moment in the sabbath service, the Ark is ceremonially opened, and the Torah scroll is carried in procession to the reading desk, unrolled to the reading chosen for the day and laid on the reading desk.

It is normal for everyone to stand whenever the doors of the ark are open.
The pupils saw the hebrew words of the ‘Ten Commandments’ written above the ark.

The Eternal Light
The pupils were shown the ‘Eternal Light’ (called Ner Tamid) hanging above the Ark.
This light is always burning, as a symbol of God’s presence.
