Last week we invited Year 6 students from Tanworth-in-Arden CofE Primary School for a fantastic Induction Day at Studley High School. After being picked up in the school minibus they were greeted by Mr Rose who gave them an overview of their day.

They were given a brief tour of the school and then enjoyed a History lesson with Mr Hobbis where there were asked to investigate whether Emily Davidson’s death at Epsom Racecourse in 1913 was suicide or a political statement to support the Suffragette Movement. The students looked a range of primary and secondary sources to help make their final judgements.

During mid-morning, students had an engaging lesson with Mr Salmon and were provided with some basic resources to help make air compressed rockets. The Year 6 students then had a mini competition to see whose rocket could stay in the air the longest.

Some of the Year 6 students coming to us in September will choose whether they want to study Spanish, German or French, before they arrive.

To make the decision making process easier, Year 6 students from Tanworth-in-Arden CofE Primary, Mappleborough Green CofE Primary, Coughton CofE Primary, St Mary’s Catholic Primary and Webheath Academy attended an ‘MFL Taster Afternoon’ where they completed a carousel of 30 minutes in each language. The sessions allowed the students to see teaching styles, content and to experience each language, which they may not have encountered at primary school.

A fabulous start to the Year 6 Induction Days!
